Starting July 1, 2018, we will no longer be able to fill a prescriptions for certain medications here at Earlysville Animal Hospital.
This is due to a change in the state of Virginia Prescription Monitoring Program. This may affect your pet’s prescriptions if they take chronic medications for pain or cough. Some of the medications included in this change are Tramadol, Tussigon, Gabapentin, and medications that contain Codeine.
Our doctors will need to write a prescription for controlled substances and Gabapentin that you can fill for your pet at any local pharmacy. Non-steroidal pain medication like Rimadyl, Deramaxx, Metacam and Galiprant are not affected by this new rule. As always, we offer Acupuncture and Therapeutic Laser as alternative treatments to manage your pet’s chronic pain.
Please call us at 434-973-9699 if you have any questions about your pet’s medications.
